More than half of America’s students are not proficient in math, but the roots of the problem go back much further than most people realize. Drawing on K12 Coalition’s white paper, How We Solve America’s Math Crisis, this 30-minute speed session will look at how math instruction has changed over time, where achievement began to slip, and why the challenge is showing up in communities across the country.

The session will also introduce research-backed strategies that can strengthen math learning and help students build confidence, understanding, and problem-solving skills. It is a starting point for the conversation, setting the stage for ConnectED, where participants will hear from multiple perspectives and explore what stronger math learning can look like in classrooms, communities, and beyond.
